The Mason Bros. is the first completed development by Precinct Properties within the Wynyard Quarter Innovation Precinct. It’s an adaptation of a reused building which dates back to the 1920s when it was a large warehouse near the docks. The refurbishment is a Warren and Mahoney projects that celebrates the buildings rich industrial heritage and is a show case and the new home for one of NZ’s leading architects.
Requirement and Specification
The structural steel within the building need to achieve the Fire Resistance Rating (FRR) designated by the structural and fire engineers, while the interior linings need to meet the appropriate Group rating requirements – and look great. Phoenix and FireZone were chosen by Warren and Mahoney to achieve the design aesthetic without any compromise to the design intent – exposing the old steel and celebrating the use of timber throughout.
Zone supplied Target Painters with Phoenix Intumescent for the steel and FireZone Intumescent for the interior linings. The solutions provided is a one-stop shop for passive fire protective coatings in New Zealand. Not surprisingly, Target Painters applied both intumescent systems on the project smoothly and efficiently without impacting other trades in those last critical weeks as the project draws to its frantic conclusion.Warren & Mahoney have a new home to be proud of and to enjoy for many years to come.
