Eden Park - South Stand

Project Description

New Zealand’s largest stadium. Once a swamp land, Eden Park was drained and turned into two sports ovals in 1914. The site of many memorable sporting moments. The existing south stand was demolished and the new stand designed to be completed for the Rugby World Cup 2011.

Requirement and specification

After an extensive phase of testing, Phoenix water based intumescent was chosen by PBS and Fletchers Construction as the intumescent to be used throughout the new south stand. Phoenix was chosen for its ease of use and low odour in a busy construction site with multiple trades in the area the intumescent was to be applied. The high quality finish achieved in exposed areas was also crucial.

An aesthetically pleasing finish that satisfied the fire ratings was achieved on time, despite multiple changes in requirements.
